Adolescent Psychotherapy
The teenage years are full of change and sometimes it can be hard to cope with the many complicated and new situations that you are exposed to. Added stress from family, relationships and friends can make it all the more difficult. It is hard to make decisions that could affect your whole life while balancing the conflicting demands of school, family and friends in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
Teens feel a tremendous sense of pressure to succeed at life, and don't always have the tools and experience to handle so many new situations and make the best decisions for themselves. A caring therapist can help provide guidance and experience in the adolescent decision making process and can help teens to process their emotions and make positive choices for their lives.
When your teen is struggling to deal with complicated situations or emotions, they may find counseling to be a helpful way to make sense of things. Through years of experience and study I have developed effective approaches that empower parents and youth alike.
I help teens deal with issues of depression and anger, anxiety, alcohol and drug use or abuse, OCD, bipolar and borderline personality disorders. I also work with adolescents to help them deal with the effects of family changes such as divorce, remarriage, additional siblings, dealing with death and provide counseling to teens dealing with emotional, physical or sexual abuse issues.
Adolescents can benefit from having a supportive adult to talk to outside of the family. Teen focused psychotherapy can assist these youth to make the best decisions for their life and encourage them when times are tough. I work to create a safe and supportive environment for teens and parents where we work together to create a solution focused plan and set goals to help teens and their families to navigate successfully through the teen years.
